The treatment preys on your imagination, adding to their menace. And the evil elements remain hidden in shadows and behind masks. Jump cuts are used effectively to bring in the horror. The fear of confined spaces, of darkness, of dealing with the supernatural gets heightened as the film progresses. The cinematographer contributed to the vision by making us experience things from the perspective of a wheelchair-bound person. The big challenge to the director and his writing team would have been to make creative use of the restricted space and convey a sense of danger, of confinement, without falling prey to repetition. How she learns from her visions and plans her escape forms the crux of the film.

A distraught mother whose daughter was killed by an unknown assailant had requested the immersion of the daughter's ashes in the ink. She then learns that her tattoo artist had used leftover ink from a previous client's artwork. Things take a turn for the worse when she falls off the roof of her house, breaking both her legs. She starts hearing voices, then images of a young girl getting brutally killed by a home intruder. The dreams get increasingly bizarre, leading her to injure herself. She starts getting disturbing dreams after she gets her latest tattoo. Her day revolves around alternating between working on her computer and playing video games. She lives alone in a huge two-storeyed home with just her maid Kalamma (Vinodhini Vaidyanathan) for company. Besides that, she also has an irrational fear of the dark. Taapsee Pannu plays Swapna, a gaming designer based in Guru Gram, who has issues interacting with people and can only work from home. Khamoshi feels like it was written haphazardly while Game Over gives you concrete reasons behind every plot twist and comes out as a more nuanced product. The basic difference between both films is in the writing. While Chakri's film is traditional home invasion, Ashwin has added supernatural elements in his product to make it stand out. Game Over, the Hindi dubbed version of the Telugu/ Tamil original going by the same name, directed by Ashwin Saravanan, is releasing on the same day as Chakri Toleti's Khamoshi. He does not deviate from the actual plot anywhere and manages to keep the audience riveted to the screen, anticipating what will happen next, thanks to the water-tight screenplay. Here too, he successfully creates the setting and mood for a subject like this, making the phobia on screen translate into his audience.

Yashaswani Dayama, renders a fun and energetic performance as Nikki, Mehak’s neighbour and friend.ĭirector Pawan Kriplani, who has earlier given “Ragini MMS” obviously knows how to hook his audience. She is ably supported by Satyadeep Mishra who plays Shaan, her boyfriend and support system with sincerity and confidence. She matches the physical appearance of her inner mind, looking harried and unkempt, without an iota of glamour. Her fears and how she deals with imaginary situations, are real and palpable, making you sit on the edge of your seat. She almost carries the film squarely on her shoulders. Radhika, who plays as Mehak brilliantly, portrayed a gamut of emotions with ease and conviction. Is she imagining it or something truly amiss with the place ? That is rest of story. Because of this, she cannot step out of the house and remains indoors, which later manifests itself into panic attacks and paranormal delusions.
